Artist Statement

Palimpsest: (1) A writing material (as a parchment or tablet) used one or more times after earlier writing has been erased. (2) Having been reused or altered while still retaining traces of its earlier form. (3) Something having diverse layers or aspects apparent beneath the surface. (4) A multilayered record.

My art is an analytic instrument. It considers itself as readily as it considers lived experience, society, emotion, other art. As such, my art is subject to the uncertainty principle: It cannot passively consider itself.

My art manifests itself in photography, performance, video, installation, print, and painting. It is often abstract, visceral. The palimpsest may reveal itself gradually or immediately, reaching out at numerous and diverse angles.
